Los Verdes:   Considered by many in Southern California to be the best bargain in golf, Los Verdes, a Los Angeles County Course, sits high on a hill above the Pacific in the coastal community of Palos Verdes.  The ocean views are spectacular, especially on the approach to the 15th where the green is on a bluff that drops down severely behind.  The green appears to be perched above the sun sparkling waves of the Pacific, even though the ocean is quite a distance away.  At other points on the course, particularly the front nine, one is aware of the course being surrounded by the homes of the community.  It's actually amazing that this relatively modern course, designed in the early 60's by William F. Bell, is available to the public every day; it is the busiest course in Southern California.  The first time I played here, I as a single, was lucky to be grouped with some guys who'd been playing here 2 times a week for 20 years.  They were heartily amused by my wayward putts that always broke toward the ocean even though lay of the land appeared to go the other way.  I was off balance all day, but that didn't interfere with my enjoyment of the ever changing elevations, the clean fresh air off the Pacific, the lush vegetation and mature trees as well as the constantly changing light and expansively beautiful views.
